Department Profile
Recognizing the increasing dependency of human life on Polymeric Materials, the University took a leading step by putting up a one year Certificate course on Polymer Science and Technology in 1990-91. Soon after, identifying the critical requirements of industries, the course was upgraded to two years Post Graduate Diploma in Polymer Science and Rubber Technology. The course was taken up to meet with the manpower requirements of polymer and polymer based industries. Looking to the need of the day and employment opportunities, the course has been further upgraded as Master of Science (Polymer Science) from 2004-05.
The Laboratory of the Department is equipped with latest state-of-art equipment. The major equipments available in the Department are Tensile Strength Tester, Oscillating disc Rheometre, Crescent Test Specimens Cutter, Din abrasation Tester, Digital pH meters, Digital Conductivity meters, Electronic Balances, Magnetic Stirrers, Refrigerators, Microwave Ovens, Ovens, Thermostat Baths, Muffle Furnaces, Spectrophotometers, etc.
The Curriculum of this Post-Graduate Programme is of high standard and matches well with any institute offering similar course in the country. Academic curriculum also includes a 60 days in-plant training (Project Report) in industries and frequent visits to polymer based industries. Such training is meant not only for technical aspects but also to provide conditioning to our students with the industrial culture. A number of students have received training in reputed polymer industries JK Tyres, Apollo Tyres Birla Tyres Hi-Tech Carbon, and Vin Industries) and some of them are occupying good offices in these industries
This course is conducted in close cooperation with leading automobile Tyre Manufacturing Industry, the J. K. Industries and its Research and Development Institute, Hari Shanker Singhania Elastomer and Tyre Research Institute (HASETRI). Scientists from HASETRI are also involved in teaching the students along with guiding them for their projects and industrial training. In November, 2007 Department of polymer science.
